11/13/2008: Drunk-driving Witch Doctor Finds Christ
Drunk-driving Witch Doctor Finds Christ
Gyan's drunk-driving disaster on Sikkim's windy mountain roads helped him find Christ. |
Gospel for Asia missionary Kushal was on his way to visit someone who had just been released from the hospital. The recovering man was a distant
relative—and an alcoholic witch doctor who had always refused to listen to his missionary relative's message.
Kushal didn't know what to expect as he entered the house. But Gyan, the languishing relative, broke down and started to weep while he listened to the Gospel.
Gyan had been drinking when he was involved in the car accident that landed him in the hospital. The memory of all his wrongdoings—his alcoholism and acts of witchcraft—overwhelmed him. That day, he clung to every word Kushal shared with him.
The car wreck gave Gyan a new perspective on life, and he gratefully received the Gospel message and decided to follow Jesus. Gyan's family members joined him in receiving Christ.
Even though he was still suffering from serious injuries, Gyan was full of new joy and hope. But as the news spread of his conversion, fierce opposition rose up against him. People were angry that their witch doctor had left his practice. But Gyan clung to his faith and continued attending church.
Kushal asks for prayer that Gyan will stand strong in his faith and lead many of his previous followers to life in Christ. He also requests prayer that God will continue to bless his ministry, and that many more like Gyan will find salvation.
